i may be a thick T**t, but i have installed the divx bundle, and now wanting to convert AVI files to MPEG with codec, but after installation i have got the Divx player and Divx codec configuration, how do i load the decoder, please help
Hello Mr.Thick (lol).
DivX is an encoder, not a decoder. For you to convert an avi/divx file you have to mpeg/mpg (presumably for vcd or whatever), then you would use a tool like TMPGEnc.
Load your avi movie there & have TMPGEnc convert it to an mpg.
You happen to be in luck though, cause the tutorials from our very own super movie guru, ChickenMan, has made them easy to follow in easy to follow steps.
Have a look at them for all the tools & steps you will need: http://forum.cdrsoft.cc/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=28
I have tried that already, and i get and error message saying that my file cannot be opened or is not supported they are (AVI) files, has any body got any suggestions PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where did you get your avi file from?
Many of the files you get off peer2peer apps are fakes or are not encoded properly (that's why you would get many errors). Firstly can you play your avi files?
Another thing you could try is loading them with virtual dub & save them under a different name (with settings found in one of the tuts by CM) & then try loading them in TMPGEnc again.
Also make sure you have the latest version of TMPGEnc (with the vfapi installed).
Hope that helps.
Good luck.
As shadoe_phantom has mentioned, the variety of DivX encoded movies out there now , particular off Kazza, are making conversion to VCD very hard indead.
Does your AVI play with Windows Media Player without any faults? If no video you do not have the correct Codec for this movie installed. What are/is the actual DivX codec you have installed?
Actually DivX codec is an encoder and deocoder. Encodes when it makes a DivX and decodes when it plays it back!
I suggest you strip the Audio out as a WAV using VirtualDUB as outlined in the Tutorial, then use this as Audio and the DivX for Video source.
