Disc to disc copy a nightnare (LG + Nec)

Hi all, I am having probs with reading a disc after burning on the fly. I can make back up copies of my dvds via dvddecrypter and dvd 2 one and then use nero6 demo to burn . NO PROBS HERE. The prob starts when I try to copy a copy. I have an LG GCC4320B cdrw/dvd combo and burning on a NEC 1300A+/-. The NEC has herries 1.09 firmware and the LG has 1.02 origional. The Burn process goes ok and states Burn process completed successfully. But as soon as I try to play the copy, it states, cannot read the disc in his language or disc may be different format. I can see that the disc has been written on but can't read it.
Any Ideas for someone who isn't very tech minded. Cheers

Cheers Poacher, I'll try that if I can get those discs. Still confused though, would I still get perfect quality on my old discs after I write from hard drive. All those efforts are 100% it's only disc to disc makes my want to pull out what little hair I have left. Thanks again

After looking into the settings of my LG in nero express, it seems to be set to record in data (mode1) instead of ISO/UDF and I don't know how to change it. Also in save tracks/ choose drive my NEC is SCSI ID = 1 and Adapter no. = 0. The LG is SCSI ID = 0 and Adapter no. = 1. Don't know if this matters. Please help a plonker.....................Cheers.................

It seems that your LG burner is slave to your harddisk, and this is not a particularly good configuration... and not only for copying.

Thanks for that scarecrow. My Nec is the burner, but you are 100%. It is slave to my HD, but only because I was advised not to link my dvd/cdrw and dvd rw to the same IDE cable. Is there any better way of setting it up. Thanks again

Her we go again... I took scarecrows advice and now nec burner is secondary master. LG is primary slave. Read Woodys tutorial for beginners and installed ASPI (ok) disabled IMAPI, disabled -enable cd recording, and made sure DMA available (current mode=ultra mode). Still saying "Can only write first data track" when using nero express to copy entire disc. I eagerly await advice. Thanks all.

Try using the full burning rom program instead of xpress and do not copy on the fly. It may take a little longer but you should get better results. If you use the full program leave the presets alone and just copy disc, but not on the fly (it wans that this is risky)

Try for on the fly because to me if your system cant hack that something is wrong >< for better results burning fom Fixed drive is probably better but On the fly for me!!

Cheers Poacher, I've tried both off and on the fly and also dvd+r and dvd- r source disc. Still same prob. As soon as burning process starts " Can only copy Track one data mode" appears . Also, don't know if it makes any difference, but I think my IDE cables are 80 wire.

aha general consensus is 40 pin for non fixed drives (personally I believe fixed drives should be on Raid) to obtain maximum potential

For "On the fly" I always have the ROM on a different cable to the BURNER

eg in my main rig 2 x Hard drives on Raid
DVD BURNER as Master to a CDRW as Slave on IDE 1
CDRW as Master to a DVD ROM as slave on IDE 2

never had a problem on the fly.

On my non raid rig I have
Hard drive as master with DVD ROM as slave on IDE 1
DVD burner as Master on IDE 2

+ a good old plexwriter 12/10/32s on an ancient SCSI card which still when required burns beautifully

Again never a problem on the fly

ALL my IDE cables are 40 pin.

Thanks again The-poacher. I've set up as per your non raid rig (Not that I know what raid means) and changed to 40 pin ide cables, unfortunately still the same. Also when blank disc put in dvd burner, it doesn't recognise it and states E; not accessable. incorrect function. But dvd info pro or nero info both give Blank disc and space left. Still lost I'm afraid.

:D oke mate...i have no problem...have the pioneer and nec on the same cable and it work fine for me...also on the fly..also 1 one 1 works great..maby you can try the same as i did with the same cable on the drives...good luck..greeting hjc :D

Cheers hjc. I tried it but still a non starter. I have now updated both firmwares(again) installed new 40 pin IDEs and tried all advice, still dead end. I'll wait until I get a chance to try a different disc, but at least I have my cd-rw back to normal. Thanks all.
