DirectX Web Install 9.0a

Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. DirectX 9.0 includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX 9.0 APIs.

The DirectX 9.0 runtime cannot be uninstalled. We recommend Windows Millennium and XP users create a 'System Restore' point before installing.

From FileConnect.net:

Software: DirectX 9.0a removed from Microsoft Site
Posted on Wednesday, March 26 @ 10:15:15 CET by Adek

ieXbeta reports :

It appears as though Microsoft has removed their recent release of DirectX 9.0a from their webserver.

If you try to access Microsoft's DirectX 9.0a Download Page, you'll simply recieve the following error message:

The download you requested is unavailable. If you continue to see this message when trying to access this download, you might try the "Search for a Download" area on the Download Center home page.

Also, any references to the recent release in Microsoft's Download Center has been removed.

It is not clear at the moment why Mircosoft has decided to erase all evidence of 9.0a's existance.

I remember a friend having MAJOR problems with a DX7 (or 7.0a) release (which was also pulled for about a week)

Microsoft rewrite history by burying their mistakes?

The download link in a posting of mine above - is also pulled now - and anyone who downloaded but hasn't applied yet would be well advised NOT TO!

It would seem the problems reported must have been confirmed - and it's not Microsoft's way to admit that anything is broken unless they already have a fix - for SECURITY issues, there is some point to not revealing unrepaired holes unless there is at least a workaround if not a complete fix.

Make a Restore Point B4 installing DX9

By the way......
B4 install of DX9 it's always a good thing to make a restore point on your PC then installing DX9.
Read it's a Dog to uninstall if your lucky so better to B on the safe side of things... ;)

A friend once said to me

Re Direct X "If what U are using works stick with it cos this bit of microsux s/ware has had more F**k ups than most.Let others test it & only install a newer version when U NEED it (like for that latest game)" & like the ras man says its a bitch to get rid of!!!

The release date now is 3/26/2003 from same site.
Stable fix version.;)
Reports have it as DirectX 9.0a was removed because of an incompatibility with ATI Catalyst 03.1 drivers.

I have installed the 9.a and have had absolutly no problems whatsoever!

I'm running a P4 1.8ghz
40GIG C Drive
80GIG D Drive
512 RAM Rimm memory
Audigy Sound Card
Ti4600 with Det43.03 installed

Been playing Splinter Cell all morning (No prob.)
Did some Adobe Acrobat 5.0 configuration (No Prob.)
Also touched up some .jpg photo's with Adobe Photoshop (No prob.)

I really don't see the big deal with this!

Ran 3DMark 2003...Did I get a better score?
Yes I did...form a measley 1665 to 1698.
(God I wish I knew how to increase this. I have a feeling this is NOT a good score)

Do I recommend them...What do I know!
All I know is that NOTHING has happened to my machine
and I've had absolutly NO PROBLEMS at all!

Regards,

:)

Typical Microsoft...
You'd better leave them alone, until they decide IF and WHEN they have to upgrade their crap without messing everything.
Just try to install ALL available bugfixes/updates for XP or 2000, and you will find out how good they are pretty soon...
