Digital 8 video to MPEG2, audio problem

Hello pals.
I have digital 8 camera and convert DV video to MPEG2/SVCD using TMPEGenc.
Everything is good except audio quality - after converting from 32 MHz (camcorder audio) to 44.1 MHz (SVCD must) sound is "birdie", so some high frequency noise appears.
Anybody has ideas how to fight it ?

Converting a lower quality 32khz to a better 44.1khz will always tend to produce a "birdie" sound as you describe it.

I would try looking at filters, effects etc in audio editors like CoolEdit 2000, Sound Forge, Goldwave, DartPro, etc, etc that hopefully can filter out a lot of the induced noise and improve the overall quality. Demux the MPEG2 file and then use the MP2 audio file as above. If you make any improvents, remux back with the M2V file. Most of the editors I mentioned above will only use WAV files so that fine, when you do the final save, save as a WAV and convert it back to MP2 audio with TooLame (h**p://members.dingoblue.net.au/~mikecheng/ )

thank man

I will try. Kust do not like additional steps in this LONG home video -> SVCD story.
Already spent a lot of hours ;)
