Device cdrom has had a bad block

Further to my post on my bust philips1208 burner I have now tried everything known to mankind!! After a full disc reformat and just connecting 1 hd and the burner on seperate ide cables it began to work....... but only a couple of times. The system log tells me that the device has had a bad block? What's at fault my computer or the burner? What is a bad block and what triggered it my computer or the burner? Does anybody have any clues on this? The error report sent me to microsoft knowledge base which said sorry can't help! I have reached the end of the road and i'm lost without my beloved burner. Someone, somewhere please help!!!

even more strange!!

Device properties now lists it as a philips1208dvd/rw SCSI device? A SCSI? It's IDE! What on earth is going on!!!

I am using XP. At the moment I am not using any burning progs after the reformat I put windvd on just to see if the burner could play/recognise a dvd. I let xp try detect a blank rw dvd disc too, as I said it worked a couple of times and now it's stopped working again. The scsi problem turned out to be my fault I tried using a miniport driver, I am just shooting in the dark really..

I did try on my older pc and worked fine, but I only tried it a couple of times, it may be just showing the same symptoms as my newer pc. I guess i'll stick it on the old pc again and run it lots of times to see if it continues to work after a couple of successful attempts...

I have used force aspi with version 4.6, do I still need to disable imapi as i don't know what it is or does?

When all options are exhausted...

Well as Spock once said on a Trekky movie, when all options are exhausted take it back to PCWorld! So I did and got a replacement, the updated philips1228 at the same price and it works fine!!!!!!!
It was about 20 wasted hours shooting in the dark, but heh, I know a bit more about computers now..
