determine max speed only 27x

I have a Lite-On 40125s = 40x12x48 and a Optorite DD0401 DVD-CDRW.
If I run Nero 6 determine max speed from the burn menu, I only get 27x read speed off my hard drives which then says I can only burn cd's at 24x. I have 2 IBM 80gb 7200rpm ATA-100 drives, AMD xp1800 and 1 gb of ram. I have also set dma to on.
Can someone help.?
thanks

How do you have your IDE's set up? You should have your burner on a different channel then the HD that your data is coming from. Also what speed disc are you using, nero is very picky. Let me know if that helps.

I have the HD's on IDE-0 and the burners on IDE-1. The CD's shouldnt matter, it says the SOURCE cant supply the data faster than 27x, and the source is the HD not the CD's. I have tried Verbatium and Khypermedia both are Exactly the same, which is what I expect as there not the source.
