Desktop icon missing from taskbar

Thanks for the reply but i think you have misunderstood the question. In the quick launch taskbar, their is normally a quick launch icon for media player, ie and the desktop icon. The desktop icon has disappeared and I don't know how to get it back.

Thanks

Maybe a broken shortcut.....rightclick your taskbar, select "open folder", but if it isn't listed there, you have bad luck.....

You can get it back, it's in C:\Windows\System
Right click and hold down, drag it on to the quick launch bar and release your button and choose "Create shortcut here"

Sorry, I checked mine in Windows 98 and found it then realised you were on XP.
Don't know about XP sorry but you could try Docs & settings\admins\apps data\microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick launch or the same sort of path in XP and create a shortcut from where ever you then find it.

yes i did misunderstand the question , my quicklaunch icon is in this dir.

C:\Documents and Settings\Peter\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Still no luck guys, i have the media player and ie icon there, just not the show desktop icon.

Thanks for all the feedback

Have you recently installed anything ?

Try system restore

I'm running out of idea's now....................

Thanks roadworker got it to work. Can i ask where you found it?
Of course,dude.....I copied mine for ya.....:D

I suggest you to copy your quicklaunch folder and store it on a floppy....;)

I see you've sorted it....just as I found this..............

Make a text document and put this inf in it exactly as it is: [Shell] Command=2 IconFile=explorer.exe,3 [Taskbar] Command=ToggleDesktop and save it. Then, (make sure you set the view option to show file extensions so the text document shows the .txt extension) rename the document to Show Desktop.scf It will ask if you are sure and tell it yes. Now you should have an icon that looks and works like the original

Thanks guys for your informative and quick replies. I was juggling with the idea of formatting so you saved me the hassle of starting again.

Happy New Year
