Data on dvd-r corrupted

I have burned some data dvd-r's. When trying to copy the data back over to the hdd, I get error's. On the drive that I burned the discs, I get "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". On another box w/ a dvd-rom drive I get "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)". Some of the data, I can see just fine in Explorer, other data that I know was burned I can't see at all (although I can physically see the burn ring). These discs were burned w/ Nero 6, as closed session, ISO Level 1, ISO9660, Joilet w/ relaxed ISO restrictions. These discs are 2x & were burned at this speed. I did try burning some @ 1x & verify data written. That seemed to work fine.
My setup is:
WinXP Pro
Micro Advantage 4DVDRW-B13 (w/ latest firmware)
Nero 6.0.0.0
Are my data discs permantely corrupted? Thanks in advance! (If this is reposted, my apologies. Mozilla crashed on me.)

hi & welcome ;)
1) the errors u get may be due 2 damaged /scratched media
2) the files could have been corrupted @ burn time if u had a nice antivirus like norton running in the background
btw mozilla should run fine over this forum,u're running wat version?v1.6 or 1.7 rc1 should b fine or try firefox ;)

You dont mention the brand/type of media you used. For essential Data backup you need to buy the best quality disks you can find, these are normally medium to high price. For cheapies, you get what you pay for :D

Also, upgrade your Nero 6.0.0.0 as it had many DVD related burning problems.

It's a housebrand that I ordered from YesBuy. I thought I got a good deal. Never had this prob w/ cd-r. Like I said, I can make good discs @ 1x. Is it possible to recover my data? Thanks in advance!
