Dat File

Hiya all.

I have just downloaded a Divx Movie using Morpheus, the file has downloaded as a DAT file, how do i convert the DAT file to the original DIVX.

Sorry if this question has been asked before but i am quite new to this.

Thanks

dat file????

DAT files are usally VCD files not DIVX which are normally AVI files. If the file is in DAT form and is a VCD the for the average movie 1hr30mins you need at least 2X650mb files or there abouts. To convert DAT (vcd) to Divx seek the excellent tuturials on this site.

hope this helps.

Convert your DAT file to MPG first using VCDGear (from w*w.vcdgear.com ). If you want it as a DivX, as suggested, read the MPG to DivX tutorial. If you want to be a VCD, many MPG's downloaded are already in that format. Try making a VCD with Nero, drag the MPG file in. If it accepts it, then burn to VCD and the jobs done. Again, the DVD to VCD tutorial will explain how to do it in detail.

To be honest, I have been able to just start Nero and when I add a file to the VCD, I just drage the dat file in and it will do the rest. I never convert them, and it seems to work well. I never see any quality issue. EZCD will do the same thing. The .dat file will make a VCD with no conversion....

Yep your right, later versions of Nero does seam to accept a DAT file for VCD creation. However there is absolutely no mention or it in Nero's help file therefore I'm not sure how well its supported.

I and many others have had odd problems off and on and not always 100% working. Conversion of DAT to MPG first and then use that to create the VCD works all the time, everytime, 100%.

I have used it that way many times and it always worked for me. I was even able to do this with EZCD, but no longer use that software. But it does work.
