DAT and MPG

New!! I did do a search on this, and the question I have is. If you have a DAT and you convert it to mpg and then burn it using Nero it will burn it as a DAT? Right?

Yes, that is what I mean. I tried to burn it as a regular data cd but my dvd player will not play it. Also, when I convert an avi to a vcd or a svcd to a vcd and play them in my dvd player ( Not on my pc) It starts ok but then the pic. just go's into big square blotchs. Just like Direct TV will do if there is a heavy rain. Know what I mean??

yes a data cd will not work on any dvd player. You will need to make it a VCD or SVCD for it to work.
Are you following the tutorials set by ChickenMan to do your avi-to-vcd conversion? It shouldn't give you those blocks (if your original source was good).
Other than that, it could mean you burned them too fast (do not burn higher than 4x. *some people can do upto 12x, but I find nobody has trouble if burned at 4x).
The only other factor is your DVD player. Some players just don't handle them well (while others don't handle them at all).
What is the model & brand you are using? This could help us determine if it's the player's fault (I own a couple & my aiwa is a real pain in the ass with them).

Yes I am following the tutorials to the letter. I am buring at 4x. I can play a vcd fine that I have downloaded off the net, but when I try to convert my own is when it happens. I have an RCA RC5223P.
