Cutting problem

Help ! I have used chickenmans excellent tutorial which has been ok until cutting.
I need to cut the Mpeg into 2 mpegs, I have followed the Tutorial and I am doing it correctly.
The first part is ok, when I try to do the second part the program (TEMPenc) crashes?
has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know of another program I could use

Thanks

i had the same problem. i tried so many times but can't get it to work so i gave up. but before, i was able to cut one movie in half with no problem, but not anymore. i used the same version.

Try an earlier version of TMPGEnc, like 1.2h, i or j Version 2 is causing all sorts of problems with many users.

They are all at ht*p://www.granavenida.com/vcdspain/down/tmpgenc.htm

I took your advise and downloaded version 1.2
still have the same problem
do you know of any other software I could try and where to get it

Thanks

Another program that chops MPG files correctly is I Film Edit 1.4.5 You can get it from ht*p://www.apachez.net/ in the Tools section.

It been a long time since I have used it but its pretty easy to use.

Cheers.

VCDCutter does NOT cut an MPG file correctly, despite its claims and sould only be used in a last ditch despiration where everything else fails. It does not build the mpeg header for each cut file which is essential for futher processing. While Nero will accept it, just about every other authoring or editor will not.

In a nut shell, it can create more of a problem than whats its solving!

Have to really disagree there chickenman dont know if it cuts them correctlly as you say but i have never had any synch problems always cuts where i chose ive used it to cut over 60 movies not one problem ever. The resulting files if there mpeg1 vcd compliant will burn in all authoring packages tried ie winoncd 3.8.ezcd 5.nero,Philiphs vcd toolkit,vcdimager........although sometimes i remember now about 5-6 times it has given me output file 2x the imput size and it could be a bit more frame accurate but nothing ever runs without its hitches. Ill take you word though about the header files as i would not know and dont know about editors as i only edit in avi format then convert to mpeg after editing its longer but i prefer the results more

Glad you like the program. Yes you are right, it does physically cut the mpeg file with very little problem. You obvioulsly havn't tried editing these cut files though. Try loading one of the cut files into, say, MPEG Conversion Studio and you will see what I mean. Try cutting the same file with TMPGEnc and load one of the cut pieces into MPEG Conversion Studio and you will see thats its now accepted as a fully compliant MPG.

TMPGEnc also has its problems as the Packet size of the cut files is not quite right (Wombles MPEG2VCR is the only Editor/Cutter that does it correctly, just meesy to use) so have to then use M1-Edit to fix that.

I take the attitude that if your going to do it, do it correctly and make 100% compliant VCD mpg files, 99% is not close enough.

Cheers.

why would i want to edit in mpeg as i stated in last post i edit in avi not needing to touch final mpeg i like to get it right before i encode to mpeg except to cut and burn of course .With my standalone dvd players i have no need to worry about standard compliance as my movies are for me at my place not for my freinds to borrow and as you already know i make cvcd movies which are non compliant but as you say there non compliant in MPEG conversion studio if i cut standard compliant vcd mpeg with vcdcutter then Philips videocd toolkit 2.0 says it is a standard compliant vcd and all dvd software(windvd, powerdvd) recognise it as standard compliant then DVD player that does NOT support xvcd plays it as standard compliant cd is it no safe to assume its a standard compliant vcd so then said mpeg must also be standard compliant btw i have used Wombles MPEG2VCR and sound generally was out of synch only by a second or 2 but enough to be annoying like i was watching a dubbed movie thats why i use vcdcutter i works very good for what i want and that is to simply make 2 files to burn TMPGenc sucks to cut movies some serious synch issues and blocky output files but i do only use 12a things might have improved but i wouldnt know

Well maybe you will find out in a year or so time when you try to recover your movie from your badly scratched CD's. Thats is when you wished you cut them with something more compiant than VCDCutter.

I have had a gut full from fixing other peoples problem CD's where they used VCDCutter originally. I wont touch them anymore.
