CPU upgrade???

i removed my old AMD Athlon XP 2600+, got a brand new Athlon xp 3200+ 400FSB , when i turn it on now it does not even go into bios and it bepps like a abulance or police siren then turns off??
i left the switch setting on auto, which is what the manual tell you unless you have a 200fsb. the mobo support 400 fsb??
so i dint know whats going on
any help??

It could be the ram, video card or cpu fan. The beeps can give you an idea of whats going on. If you go to the MB site you may find a list of what the beeps are. But I would check to see if everything is all the way in the socket. Are you sure that the MB doesn't need a bios update to work with that chip? :)

it dont really beep. it sort f sound like a siren, and there is no beep code for that, and it just turns off after the siren goes off for a bit, i put my old cpu back in and the system is just dead no beeps, or sirens with the old CPU, just dead, post bios screen wont come on, but the led. light works and all fans work, so i strip down to just cpu, heatsink, 1 ram(tried differant slots) and video card , changed power supply, then change the ram to another peice of RAM, so its not the ram, changed video card, not video card, changed cpu and heat sink the new cpu makes the siren noise( but is still dead( appart from fans and stuff) i try to put it back the old way before changing CPU, its just dead with old CPU, ( appart from fans and stuff) no beeps , no Sirens with other CPU(old one)

is the motherboard stuffed?? nothing else i can change??*( friggin crap was working till i put the new cpu in and now it wont work with any parts or cpu????

You haven't told us who makes the MB? Have you check there site to set if the have a trouble shooting section?

I think that you just have fried your MB: some vendors have a feature that sounds like a siren (something like an ambulance) that warns about overheating and improper voltages and the system must be turned off inmediatelly if you keep pushing at this state the voltage regulators in the MB for the cpu will burn, this will let you with a MB capable of start a psu but with no way to provide voltage to the cpu and by consecuence useless.

Don´t think everything is lost already, sometimes the BIOS simply blocks before all that I said above happens so if the MB has a recovery BIOS function you can get it to work again by just reflashing it.

how do i flash it if i cant get to Bios, and i have noticed that the Fan cuts sick goes full blast just before it turns off, but it dont siren or turn off with the old CPU, its just dead( appart from the fans and crap) would this of stuffed my CPUs??? why would the voltage be wrong, when its all set to auto or why would it be over heating??

Your cpus should be fine, now I said if the MB has a recovery BIOS function you can get it to work again by just reflashing it, so you must check the manual of your MB to see if it comes with such feature and how to use it, in most cases where it is avaible a jumper setting is needed in order to recover the BIOS.

Try pulling the battery for a bit, and jumper the CMOS Clear pins, then reinsert the battery and old CPU. See if you can get into setup again...
