Could Shadey answer this one

"Could not open this file with DirectShow" (0x800x40218)
I saw that Shadey got this error a while back. It happens when I try to cut with tmpgenc. The file that I am trying to cut is about 800 MB Shadey implied that it was resolved by getting a supported mpeg2 decoder. I have used tmpgenc to cut mpeg 2 files several times and this is the first time it has failed. Can anyone tell me how to get an encoder that is supported. I am relatively new at this. Will I have to buy one? Maybe it has something do do with the file but I don't think so. It plays perfectly.
Thanks for any help.

have you tried using G-SPOT to check what the file format is and what is used to encode it !? this will also tell you the correct decoders needed to use too :)

Supported file type.

G-spot (what a name) says that it is or appears to be a n unsupported file type. But it says it is some kind of mpeg. I don't get that if it plays OK.
