Corsair DDR

Are Corsair heat spreader supposed to be glued on the Ram, i know they have the clip but are they meant to be glued on??
Would it be possable for a retailer to take the heat spreaders off(ram covers) and then just put them back on any RAM module and sell them as Corsair, how can you tell they are Corsair appart from the covers can you check from bios or device manager or some other way to see you got the right RAM.

I purchased a 1 GB kit (twin1024RE-3200LL registered ECC DDR RAM). From a retailer, when I got home I discovered that the retailer had opened the plastic case and put thier store decal on the heat sink ,heat spreader, black cover whatever you call it. What I want to know is could this have been tampered with, I noticed a bit of residue either glue or something like what a decal would leave behind if it was taken off on one of the RAM heat covers, I also noticed the one side of the RAM heat cover was slightly higher then the other sides ram heat cover on both modules and not evenly either, is this normal?? are the ram cover meant to be glued on , is it possible the retailer tampered with it put the Corsiar heat covers on a cheap ram module??? How can I know for sure

Yes, it is entirely possible that a reseller could take the Corsair heatsink off retail rams and re-install it on other rams. Yes, you would have to take the heatsink off to see. From what I hear, this would not impair the cooling properties of the rams much -- the heatsinks are mostly decorative. However, you risk damaging your rams by extacting the sinks.

Solution: take the serial numbers from the rams and discretely contact Corsair tech support. They will verify the state of your memory (and will problably request that you send them the merchandise if things look overly suspicious).

So they are supposed to be glued on??
Also gfor the life of me i cant find any serial number , unless its under the heat sinks and seeing they seem to glued on im not going to take them of, what the clips used for then?

Corsair RAMs having an SPD chip hooked up; fabricator and specs are stored in the SPD; system diagnosis tools like SiSoft Sandra and AIDA are able to read out and display these informations;

Correct... AIDA32 link shows my RAM correctly as Corsair.

Yes adia32 and sisoft sandra will tell you. BTW, places like buyaib.com swap there heat speaders, and sell replacement cheapo ram and at slower speeds, cause most people arent aware of utilities like adia. So dont ever order from them, I learned that the hard way.
