converting problems avi to mpg

geez what is it with me & avi files... this is like the 5th time, anyways here it is:

ok all conversion programs that i tried to convert an avi to mpg have either frozen up the computer or caused a blue screen in xp home. i know the audio rate of the avi is the wrong format 22hz. so i extracted the audio to .wav using virtualdub & made sure the conversion rate was set to 44hz. i then loaded up tmpgenc entered the avi location & for audio i entered the .wav location at 75% the computer froze up. i tried it again & it froze at 2%.

i also tried panasonic standalone encoder 2.51 & about 2min into conversion the computer froze up.

i tried lsx mpeg encoder 3.5 & when i selected the file i wanted to convert to mpg it gave me an error saying "audio stream has unsupported format. this program only accepts pcm audio format." which i already knew about however it still attempted to convert the file, but about 1min into the precess it caused a blue screen.

i tried main concept encoder & during the encoding the computer froze up.

I would suggest you extract the MP3 outof the AVI with VD but do not convert to WAV or change its sampling rate. Set Audio to Full Stream Copy and save wav (but rename to *.mp3 as that is what it really is) Then load into Goldwave, in Effects / Resample, select 44,100 and finally Save As to a WAV, 16 bit stereo. Now you will have a good WAV file to use in TMPGenc.
