convert fat32 to ntfs is it safe

Hello me again:)

i have just got my dvd105 and have install and set up everything fine but when i install dvd decrypter it says my drives ate fat32 and cannot handle files greater than 4gig. i found a thread here showing a command line convertion does anyone know how safe it is to use the command line convert option to change one of my
backup drives to ntfs so i can rip my dvd's so i can back em up.

should i convert all my drives to ntfs?

is it safe to convert the c:\ drive with my os on to ntfs?

cheers folks

Yes, I've done it before to drives with my os on it with out a problem and no data loss. Also I can play games with out a problem. Just one think I believe you can't convert back unless you format. But I haven't found a reason to go back. Goodluck

I have to agree..i did it with 3 computers (16 partitions) and there was no problem...looks like that it is save.

You can go back with Partition Magic 8...i tried it too and had no problems. ;)

Even when scarecrow will tell you that PM8 is crap ;) it was working fine for me.

Biggest advantage besides file security is "self-healing" of NTFS. It can actually fix errors on the fly and is much more error tolerant than FAT(32).

NT, 2000, XP, and now Win2003 all use NTFS. There is no more Win9x, and FAT will probably go the way of HPFS soon...
