Hello all,

I just bought a DVD burner and I want to make my AVI movies into a dvd, so I can play them in my home dvd what would be a good tool to use to convert them over to dvd format? I am looking for some freeware tool, but if there isn't any then I am going to have to purchase it. any suggestions would be
great. :D :D :D

Did you get anything useful with the burner?
There aren't many free MPEG2 (DVD) encoders, and even some you buy can be pretty poor (Nero).
CinemaCraft and Tmpgenc (plus/DVD author) seem to be well regarded

http://members.cox.net/beyeler/bbmpeg.html BBMPG is one free one
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools?tool=460 http://www.motiwala.com/ympeg.htm - YMPEG is another one (ALPHA - VERY alpha)
Note the requirements, SSE support is required - a Pentium 3 or Athlon XP Theoretically, a Coppermine (P3-based) Celeron or a Morgan core Duron or better should also meet the minimum SSE requirement

ffmpeg is another free MPEG2 (also AC3, MPEG4, RV1, quicktime and others) encoder, supports numerous inputs, does multipass. Never really used it myself though.
