conversion from captured .avi to something sonic scenarist will accept?

Hey folks ;)

Been reading the forum for a while now and finding it to be one of the best places for info on just about everything to do with dvd burning, etc. Thanks for all your help already ........ now I have a personal request/question.

I have captured a video off vhs using pinnacle studio 7 card and saved it as an .avi file. Have re-encoded the .avi with tmpgenc to dvd (default) specs BUT sonic scenarist won't allow me to import the mpg that tmpgenc has created! Any ideas why this might be? Am very new to using scenarist and any help would be much appreciated as I would like to teach myself how to really use this program to it's full potential. This is going to be my test project so really need something to import!!

Any help much appreciated.

Check your Input/out A/V pdf.

Hi Welcome

I am not using sonic scenarist. But DVDit PE 2.52. All from the same family SONIC. I am sure your sonic scensrist anthoring tools came with the pdf call pre input/out your Mpeg 1 & 2 for Audio & Video.

There are many ext files name, like DVDit PE can inport dv codes avi, mpg, m2v & etc...For audio is mpa, wave & ac3. So from that you can knew what kind of file are you re-encoded the .avi with tmpgenc. Some file may not import to pro authoring tools.

Specialy this file ext .m2p. You can changed the file ext , like this Video.m2v change to Video.m2p. It may work or may not. Check all your sonic scenarist pdf help file. You will have the right place.

You need to ensure that you are complying with the DVD specification. It's not as simple as just saying "MPEG2" - there's a whole host of parameters which are critical, and Scenarist will reject anything which has not been encoded with the correct parameters. Just do a search on Doom9 for Arky's posts on "DVD spec" and "GOP"

@lock-e

By converting with TMPEG you have to set the “output interval the sequence header” to “1” and “MAX number of frames in a GOP" to “15”.

Now is your file complying with the DVD specification and you can import it.
I had the same problem. The only problem you could have after that is, that the video an ac3-Audio files are sometimes not 100% synchron.

I hope I could help you.
