MackemX,

Very nice step forward in this software.

I tried the Beta on Indiana Jones and split the DVD. The process went very smoothly and the disks are fine. However, I would like to be able to start Disc 2 with the movie rather than the menu. Most DVD splitting software have this option. Maybe you can add that to your list. Also, when playing the end of disc1, the player cycles through looking for the missing chapters. When it hits the end, it goes to the menu.
Maybe (wish list) you could add a still title "Insert Disc 2" at the end of the last chapter rather than going back to the menu.

All in all a great beta.

Hi

I'm not so sure on automating the 2nd DVD starting with the movie, as you never know what goes on before it gets to playing the movie :(, such as DVD's that require language/screen format selection etc

the insert 2nd Disk option will hopefully be implemented in a future version as it's already on the list

glad to see you like the Beta :)

p.s. Don't forget The Mad Guy, he is the one doing all the programming and without him, DS wouldn't exist ;). Send TMG an early XMAS card and maybe he will implent the 2nd Disc option :)

I ran beta 1 through its paces yesterday with two episodic DVD's; both "strip" & "split" modes with perfect results!

The speed & efficiency in properly sub-dividing 'episodic's so easily with DVDStripper now versus previous methods/tools & combinations etc is awesome!!!

Also, I tried DVDS in creating an oversized ~5gig, 3 episode product and successfully ran it back thru DVDShrink at 15% with perfect size, performance (behavior) & compliant results.

Looking forward to hearing from more beta1 & 2 users.

New versions

MackemX-

Spent a fair amount of time over the last couple of days working with a DVD, US NTSC Full Frame.

I used the new Beta 1 as well as 0.1.1 and had the same problem with both.

I deleted a lot of extras but specifically kept two interactive features. I made no changes at all in these features, VTS_13 & VTS_31, yet after processing, the interactive features didn't work properly. When I copied the original IFO & BUP files over the new ones, then they worked fine. Scene selections worked fine. Another feature worked fine, but these two interactive units had problems in the new ifo's.

Also, I still have an occaisonal disc that won't play the Main Menu when the disc is inserted, but hangs just before it, This disc is one of them. The only thing I deleted at the beginning of the disc is the two warning screens. I can still make the disc work when it hangs by pressing the menu button on my remote. These discs work fine in PowerDVD 4.0.

Any suggestions?

I will try beta 2 tomorrow.

When I use the original IFO's, I just replace the DS generated ones with the originals and they work fine.

Good Luck!

It just happened to me too on another DVD
I deleted warning screens, and some Visa d' exploitation or something, screen.
Worked fine on Power DVD, BUT not on Standalone, nor did the burned DVD worked on Power DVD.
I'm in the middle of experimenting to nail the cause down, but I saw that some screens I deleted had 1 (invisible) button in them.
Apparently, it gets clicked automatically, as long as it's there :). Once deleted, DVD hangs.
With the Menuedit tip, you can see if there are any obscure buttons on screens to be deleted.
P.S. Those 2 'Visa d' exploitation' screens (cells), were NOT visible with MP2 (black), but only with Menuedit!!!

Hope all this helps somehow
P.S.2
You don't happen to own a Philips DVD player, do you ?

Hi mate

if it works using PowerDVD before burning, yet after burning the DVD it doesn't then I would question the burning software

what are you using, it ain't Nero is it?

if it works on the PC pre burning, try making an image and burning that instead ;)

I tried both RecordNowMax 4.5 and Nero6 (no File Modified).
I 'GetVTSSectored' it, nothing changes.
I'll try ImgTools tonight.

Yes, behaviour before and after burning is the same.

before burning your authored dvd load it into ifoedit and test all your menus, chapter selection etc with the built in player.
if your authored dvd wont load into ifoedit, or if it does and your menu's dont work properley then you can guarantee this will be the outcome of your burn.

I have the problem isolated and I will look into it now and see what's causing it and how it can be overcome :)

thanks for the help DenFussell as it's quite interesting as to how it's happened

I cannot point fingers as to what is to blame yet thought but as rayd suggests, before you burn it's best you check

I do always check before I burn but I've also found that software players are frequently far more forgiving than standalone units and sometimes vice-versa, there's no way of knowing for certain until you make the commitment and risk a coaster.

Mistakes is how ya learn!

Good Luck!

I've posted comments similar to DenFussell's regarding software dvd players and stand alone players. My comments were geared toward possible vts sector misalignment requiring a "get vts sectors" click in IFOEdit to ensure everything was in it's place. In this case, dvd software players notoriously play without error or prompting that anything is out of place.

IFOEdit or PowerDVD are good programs to check functionality of menu options or buttons and ensuring you've removed buttons you don't want to inadvertantly select.

The most reliable way I've found to check a finalized set of DVD files is to burn to a DVD-RW or DVD+RW disc. If it works in your stand alone, you are good to go. I know this is an extra 20-25 minutes of your time (and you need a DVD-RW), but it will save you burning a coaster (unless your burning software goes ape shit) if you aren't confident in making a permanently burn.
