CM can you help me

i have a avi file that im trying to compress but when i go to save avi as in virtual dub i recieve an error message saying error initializing audio stream compression the requested conversion is not not possible.

under video/audio i have full processing mode selected
under video compression i have selected divix codec 4.12
under audio compression i have selected lame 44100hz, 192kbps, cbr 24kb/s.

btw this i downloaded this file off the net as mpeg, but when i tried to open it in virtualdub it would say it can't open asf format so i renamed the file to asf then used asf tools to convert it to avi. under the audio tab conversion and i selected sampling rate as 44100hz & it would work but the file was going to be like 16524.43mb lol

i looked at their website & posted on their forum before i came here for help so far 47 people have viewed it and no responses.

the original file was an mpeg but when i tried to burn it in nero it said it was not in proper vcd format i opened tmpgenc and tried to encoded it to vcd but it would take like 14hours and it came out bloated that it would not fit on a cd. i then opened the file in virtualdub & got an error saying can't open asf format files so it appears like someone renamed it mpeg when it wasen't. i used asf tools to convert it to avi & now i want to convert it to mpg but when its done encoding in tmpgenc the file still comes out bloated like 900mb and above. when the avi file is only like 144mb. in short soundforbjt yes i am trying to convert the avi to mpg.

So the converted MPG file is 900meg long so that makes it a 90min movie. At 144 meg long as the original mpg/asf/avi then that would be quite poor quality because of the heavy compression used.

You must rememmber a 90min movie will ALWAYS be 900meg long as a VCD, regarless of the original file length.

You also need VirtualDUB ver 1.3c (I've also seen a 1.4c) for ASF suport. I think its still available from www.doom9.net downloads.

If your DVD Player can handle XVCD's then have a look at using EazyVCD for conversion and select 1cd XVCD format.
