Clone CD Press release!

Here is a press release I just received in my email.

**************************************
CloneCD emigrates to Antigua
Elaborate Bytes AG stops selling CloneCD

Cham, 2003-09-11 - As a reaction to the new Copyright Law in Europe,
Elaborate Bytes AG has to stop the distribution of CloneCD. The new law,
which will come into force in Germany in the next days, will prohibit to
copy protected media - even for private use.

CloneCD will neither be available as a boxed version in the big stores nor
as an online version from Switzerland. Bilateral contracts between
Switzerland and most of the European countries prohibit the sale from
Switzerland to the respective countries.

Elaborate Bytes AG will sell the rights of CloneCD to SlySoft, a company
located on Antigua. Only the online version of CloneCD will be available for
sale on the Internet. The price will approximately stay the same and the
clients of Elaborate Bytes will keep their one-year free update rights.

At this point the team of Elaborate Bytes will say thank you for the
long-standing loyality of its costumers and hopes that the new products will
lead to the same satisfaction ;-)

elby - Working Software for lazy people!

Yes,so in a way this is old news.Bigger news will be when they update the software to handle newer protections.

hmmmmmmmmm be a while since i used CLONE CD anyhow !? :)

ALCOHOL 120% surpassed clone long ago and is the flavour of choice here for my usage :)

and its faster too one of the main reasons for my switch over :)

Well, now it HAS a future, it might get some updates, but it joins a small crowd of applications badly damaged by developer neglect.

Does Regionkiller get a reprieve as well? - that vanished!

2003-07-01 SlySoft acquires DVD Region Killer & AnyDVD
SlySoft acquires all rights of DVD Region Killer & AnyDVD from Elaborate Bytes

So they did - what's the betting THEY don't make Regionkiller a freebie?

Perhaps just suppressing competition to
http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html
- Though AnyDVD is like DVD Regionfree - http://www.dvdidle.com - in NOT requiring a hacked RPC1 drive ... Regionkiller is (was?) only useful if your drive was RPC1 or could be firmware-hacked to be so.

Other anti-region systems include forced resets (for some drives) and autoreset or non-counting RPC2 firmare hacks.

A final mention to DVD Genie - the "last method" with an RPC1 drive.

The problem with an RPC1 drive, is that WINDOWS will count the changes in software.
As I understand it, Regionkiller emulates an RPC2 drive, while Genie can make uncounted changes in specific software, or freeze and restore the Windows status.

A little bit off topic...The new European copy laws are oppressive. One is not allowed to backup software they own now?Is that correct? That may cause changes to cdr/dvd forums such as these also.We might have to add a disclaimer here,on this site.Under current Canadian laws we are able to backup our software, wonder how long before that changes too?

@LTR12101B i thought so bud i remember reading it either here or at slysofts site ages ago !? 2003-07-01 according to your info you found :)

@ woody disclaimers are always a good idea that we should point out more for specific stuff such firmware upgrades etc ......now im going off topic lol :)
