clean install help

Hi my mates trying to do a clean install on a pc he been having trouble with.
1. he's put a new hard disc in
2. he set bios to boot from cd rom
3 he starts pc and gets this error ( boot from ATAPI cd rom failure insert system disc and prss enter.
this just keeps saying it's failed


can anyone help please or do you think he has another problem

Does he have another cd drive on the same ide cable as the 1 he is tryin 2 boot from???

I had the same prob with my liteon burner when tryin 2 use that 4 bootin from cd, solved it by disconnecting my old cdrom drive & takin out the power cable so that it only the liteon on the secondary ide

Has he prepared the disk with FDISK and made it bootable/ set the MBR (master boot record) !?

Most if not all !?.... hard drives that are bought new need to be FDISK'ed before usage !

Read this article at microsoft about how to use the FDISK command in dos/ at the command prompt
