can anyone tell me where i could get a cheap dvd writer in the uk or on-line ?

That IS light - ask 'em in their forum section here - there used to be an OEM Pioneer in the lineup that was a good drive and good value - it's possible they might get them back in.

Not only the sponsor, but an ACTIVE forum member - does any other company give you that level of contact?

According to the review, a rebranded NEC 1100A.

Depends if you're happy to place both feet in the +R camp ... +R media is currently a little more expensive than -R.
