Hi all,
First off sorry if this sounds basic but its giving me a headache !
I'm having problems getting certain dvd menu making programs ( DVD X MAKER ) to open vob files that i've copied to my harddrive. Is there a way of changing these vob files to AVI or MPEG 1 files ? either in the coping process to my harddrive or once they are there ?
Cheers DMEMPHIS

Just had a quick look at the software and from what I can tell you don't really want to do that. What you want is to demultiplex your VOB's into video (M2V) and audio streams (AC3/Mp2, etc.). DVDxMaker should then accept them just fine.

If you were to convert to AVI then it would be MPEG2-->AVI-->MPEG2, which is a) a waste of time and would b) result in a loss of quality.

Thanks for the advise mate, i needed it. Is m2v & mpeg2 the same ? also could you advise of a good program to convert vob to mpeg2 !
Thanks again mate DMEMPHIS

M2V is a pure MPEG2 video stream. Most authoring apps prefer elementary streams as input.

Not really converting, just demuxing. There are several programs that you could use such as VOBEdit or VStrip.
