Cendyne 52x Lite-on Firmware question!

I am about to buy a Cendyne Lightning V that has LTR-52246S on the box. Can I use the regular Lite-on firmware and upgrade program? Does Windows see this as the Lite-on 52246S that it is? I am asking as I see that the Memorex is also a Lite-on, but is not seen as the Lite-on in Windows. Also, the Lite-on flash and firmware will not just go onto the Memorex without hacking.

TIA...hope I get an answer soon!! We are talking a $25 purchase here!!

:D

Hi bro have a look at this thread go to the link and once on the new site go to How to if you want to undertake the job of changing the name in your firmware. You'll also need a hex editor. Still for what its worth I have not heard much on the Cendyne Lightning V (52x)drives so do your home work B4 hand. Mind you some good soul will give you some info in here about that drive.;)

I will look...thanks.

I have a Cendyne version of the 24102b and it shows and flashes as a Lite-on.

I was hoping that the Cendyne 52x would be OK as the Cendyne site even shows Lite-on firmware for this model.

Just got a lightening

Just got a 52X Lightening today. $40 with cash and mail in rebate. It should do for MY purposes. If not LiteOn back it goes I guess. I wanted the 48X, $20 less, but sold out. I am too lazy to put it IN today! 60 gig HD too! I get tired when I spend money.

mpsan you may well B right bro I know the older drives would flash using liter firmware. Like I said not been reading to much on the new range of Cendyne's but if they have info on their homepage for use of Lite's firmware all well and good. Good luck my friend ;)

Thanks. I will post the results here. My box says LTR-52246S. I do not see anything about smartburn. They used to have a sticker on the box, but I feel safe with the LTR model!

Take care RASTABT.

Now on to see what to do with Mt. Ranier support. Any software for it yet?

Thanks again. Is there a "best" one? :)

OK...the BIOS sees it as a Lite-on LTR-52246S and Win XP does too. It is firmware 6S07...should I flash it to 6S0C???

Well, I flashed it to 6S0C using the Lite-on sites firmware download. The only thing that says CENDYNE about this drive is...the box! :)

Also, I had some HiVal 16x that test/burn at 40X. With the new f/w it is 52X! So they are not kidding about improving media compat.

LiteOns supported

All I can say is LiteOns have MAJOR software support. I had a FULL Cendyne model, installed, crashed X3 and back to store.

Interesting STUPID is as stupid does and AFTER I bought the CD-RW checked software sites regarding updates. All the new fast CD-RWs all have NERO packaged! Then again I started my 16X w/NERO packaged.

Maybe that is why we had so much NERO going ons here before! Everyone had it free and had to use it then.

Hi bro don't use any type of packet writing mayb nero's is ok but easywrite by phillips has good reports then again so hav all the above (someone has to get paid for these reports.;) )
The only thing I would say is read up on each then go from there.

Thanks. I do not use packet either. I do use Backup MyPC, wich is sort of packet. We just back up data dirs and Quicken.

I notice that Packet software messes up Backup MY PC...maybe your suggestions for Mt. Rainier SW will not...but I am not counting on it.
