CENDYNE 522452AU 1.20-What is it really? Lite-on?

I bought a 52X Cendyne CD-R/RW for $15 hoping it would be a Lite-on 52X. After I installed the drive, Windows sees it as "Cendyne 522452AU 1.20" I've installed other Cydyne drives in the past and when you looked at them in the BIOS or device manager, it said they were Lite-on drives. I tried using Lite-on firmware, but the Lite-on updater said there was no drive to update.

This article here

http://cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=160

says that it is based on the LTR-52246S from Lite-On.

Does anyone know what this drive really is?

If it is a Lite-on, how do I flash it so it is recognized as one?

Maybe it is an Asus but they are supporting 3 52x24x52 drives at their downloadpage.

1 Benq
2 Asus
3 LiteOn

You have to check the drives serialnumber if it has 10 characters.
If so then it is an Asus

According to my serial number, it would appear that I have the ASUS. I went to ASUS and got their 1.35 firmware, but it will not run. Says it does not see the drive. Guess I'm stuck with a Cendyne. I'll update firmware when they let me.

Good luck on that. Cendyne is notorious for taking forever to update firmware. Mind you I have a Cendyne 40x burner..... but since I knew it was a LiteOn 40x (before I even purchased it), I knew I was safe with LiteOn firmware. ;)

Nevertheless, check out this page periodically.....

Nevertheless, you may be able to do this conversion (from Cendyne to Asus) in DOS bud. Check out the Firmware Forum @ http://club.cdfreaks.com/ for more info on that.

I also just purchased a Cendyne 52x24x52 CD-RW w/ a 10-digit s/n. (i.e. ASUS). I was not able to flash the firmware with any of the Cendyne firmware options on their website. I did a search in google and found a site with the latest firmware update and it works!! Here is the link: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1606

As a side note, some posters have complained that they can't use Roxio Easy CD Creator or Direct CD with this drive. Both were already installed on my drive (v5.3.5.10) and work fine so far. I never did and do not intend to install Nero unless necessary. By the way NEVER attempt to install both software at the same time. I have seen it create conflicts when trying to burn.

Good luck!
