Hi & Welcome :)

Could U give us more info as in OS, hardware, kae of burner, how old it is & what burning soft U have installed, also have U checked with a virus scanner as some can do that to the drawer, ie make it open & close, but if U can post back with more info so we can help U :)

The cd-r burner is built into my pc, It's a hp pavilion, I had it since june 01. I talk to a repairman he told me it sounds like a cd-r glitch. Well, I don't know Im not a computer repair woman lol. I did find a trojan horse virus on my computer the other day and got rid of it.

There are some joke programs that can do it, not sure if any real viruses do though.
Free cup holder - you KNOW what this is going to do, I hope I don't have to spell it out - and I take no responsibilty for breakages by anyone stupid enough to USE it as a cup holder!

A fault in the tray sensing, can also result in the tray failing to stay out, or failing to stay in - if it cannot detect full travel due to a dirty or faulty sensor (contact or optical), then the jam detection will reverse the motor.

U could try a good quality head cleaning cd on it, if U have used the drive a lot for burning & reading that can sometimes shorten its lifespan, also check Ur startup folder in the start menu to see if anyone has placed any shortcuts to a joke prog in there :)

I agree with LTR12101B either someone is pulling a joke on you or have or spyware/trojan. I've even seen people do it with AOL aim. So I be looking for spyware or something like that. When a drive goes bad they don't work, read, write but they just don't open and close continuesly by them self. Let us know what it was when you find it. :)

A cleaning CD does not go anywhere near the sensors.

What happened to one of my old drives, is if I ejected, the tray would reverse after 2 seconds (jam detection) - it hadn't registered the tray being at the end of it's travel, but that shouldn't happen on it's own.

A online friend of mine that work on computers and build pc's told me that the cd-r drive could be going bad or something maybe trying to access it. It hasn't done it today today at all. So maybe something is trying to access it.

You've gobbled a pest.
Besides the old "format c:/mbr" recipe, I have no other useful suggestions.
