CD-r speeds

sup all??
i have a question... i had some memorex 32x media and it burned @ 48x on my 48x12x48 liteon burner

now. when i went to buy some more. they burn at a max of 30x......

is there some crack that tells nero (which is what i use to burn) to burn @ 48x??

thanks....

If you check out the actual burning speed of your burner I think you'll find out that it maxes out between 16x-18x depends on what type of process your burner uses. Mine is rated at 32x and the most I can get is 17.73x
using 32x Verbatim CD-Rs with buffer underrun enabled

naw.. i can burn at 48. done it... but i was wonderin' if there was like a crack or something to keep the burner from checkin' the max speed for a cd-r, or atleast a crack to enable higher speeds

What burner do you have I've got to get one.
I'm not talking about the speed you set through the software you're using, but the actual speed that your burner is burning at, which are two different things the 48X is what your burner is capable of. I set mine at 32X and haven't it reached yet. I've got a 48X Tobshiba reader and I haven't found a CD-ROM yet that can be read at that speed.
There is a differance between capable and actual speeds Nero has utilities that can tell you that. As for a crack never heard of one, firmware controls the way and speed that you burn.

it's a lite On 48x12x48 the media i used to burn @ 48x was the silver topped Memorex... not the white ones

Speed of burning can depend on a few things.
If u burn mp3 on the fly then cpu has a lot of influence.
If u have the bufferunderrun on then printing or other cpu intensive applications will slow the process down.
U will never attain average burning speeds of 48x on a 48x burner as there is a speeding up and a slowing down process on every burn.
Testing speed is one thing.
But the proof of the pudding is in the eating!

no.. i've been nurnin @ 48 through a whole 50 pack of cd-rs on average, a whole CD took roughly 2min to burn.. and i try to use the WHOLE cd...

Think about it:
2mins at 48x must be 96min cd.lol
Average burn speed includes spinup/down and lead in/lead out.

If you are burning with Nero you have the ability to disable the "Smartburn" feature on the burner. "Smartburn" checks the media and set the appropriate burning speeds based on the quality of the media. Disabling "Smartburn" will allow you to manually select higher burning speeds but the quality of the burn may be compromised if the media is not up to the task.
