CD-R Problem

I have a cd-r backup of NBA Live 2004, it is burned on a Memorex high capacity cd-r. My PS2 makes very loud odd noises when trying to read it. I have a 30001 R PS2 with a Magic 5 mod-chip in it. any help would be appreciated.

1)is the cd scratched?
2)did u burn it @ a high /low speed?

Does it make odd noises with other cds?

it may be that your laser is struggling to read CD-R based media, sometimes this happens

you could also try cleaning your laser with one of those CD cleaning discs (little brush heads on underneath)

The CD is in pristine condition, my PS2 also makes odd noises trying to read my gameshark disc, which is cd media. I've cleaned my laser too. I guess it may be time for a replacement laser, but my warranty is voided obviously. Any solutions you guys can think of would be greatly appreciated.
