CD-R and CD-RWs Unrecognizable?

Hello.

I am having some CD Burner problems. I own a Compaq Presario 5000. When I first tried burning CDs a couple years ago, it worked fine and didn't give me any problems.

Now, I installed XP, and it doesn't work. Though, I installed XP last weekend, and the burner hasn't been able to work for about a year and a half now.

I install the blank CD-R or CD-RW, and then an error comes up saying there is either no disc in the drive or is unrecognizable. I am using Windows Media Player Series 9 to burn CDs. I first used Adaptec's Ez CD Creator 5.

Is there a way to fix this problem? I've tried all sorts of other CD-Burner programs, like Nero, but none of them work, and I keep getting that same error.

Thanks a lot.

Hi & Welcome to our forum! :cool:

i seems you have problems with conflicting burning applications; more than 2 may provoke trouble;
one question ahead: Did you a fresh install of XP or an OS upgrade?

some thoughts:
- open my computer > right click on your burner > properties > disable "Use Drive for Drag&Drop burning" (or such equal)
- disable "IMAPI burning engine" in MMC > Services
- disable "Hide Media" function in CloneCD or Alcohol 120% (if one of both installed
- try it again with Nero (5.5.10.54 is most recommendable)
