cd not recognized in xp, but nero still burns

anybody have any ideas on this problem.

i have a yamaha crw2200e cd player/writer.
i am running windows xp.

if i put just about anytype of cd into the player, it starts to recognize it, but then doesn't -- if i go to windows explorer, and select the cd drive, it does not show anything on the disc with this caveat, if its a cd that i have burnt, it will show free space as the amount of space left blank ( i.e. if i burnt a 100mb of data, it will say there is approx 600 mb of free space )

-- every now and then windows explorer does actually show me what's on the disc, but this is rare.

if i try to copy / burn anything with in IN-CD that came with xp, i can't do anything.

if i use nero, i'm able to copy and paste data onto a cd, and can read it on other computers, but not mine.

i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the drivers, and the drive many times, and this hasn't changed anything. rebooting.....

after searching the web a number of times, thinking this was a software error, i gave up and bought a new cd burner, btc. and when i installed this, i still can not read a cd. and xp is did go through the whole new hardware routine. rebooting.

so now i've put the yamaha cdr back in, and still have the same problem, any ideas?????????

Welcome.:)
Have you checked the pc for spyware? Just a guess but I've seen spyware do some strange things.

IN-CD looks like the problem source

i tried using a spyware program, figured it would be worthwhile anyway. ( ad-aware 6, since it got pretty good reviews elsewhere in this forum ) and i still had the same problem.

while there didn't seem to be any apparent answers,
that's when i started removing programs, started with IN-CD, which i think came with the yamaha cd drive. and definately worked for at least a year.

--- and i think this solved the problem, i have been able to read cd's in windows explorer repetively, including a system restart. :) :) :)
