CCE gives staircase, jagged edges

hi every1

it's been awhile i posted.....

i am able to reencode this entire DVD movie to a 4.7gb disk.....the backup movie plays fine, subs are ok.....the video and sound is in sync....the only prob i can see with CCE is that some scenes or throughout the movie....it has this staricase effect....jagged like effect....motion blur......the lines are not smooth or when there's a fast camera pan from one direction to another.....the images just seen to break up more.....

in the original DVD scenes, it's no problem so i know it's a prob with CCE

don't know if CM or the admins or other members can help with this one

thx

Sounds like an Interlacing problem, thats got nothingvto do with CCE, but more the settings your used. Maybe you can tell us all how you used CCE to do the encoding and what settings your used.

CM.....think you're right about the interlacing settings.....am using dd122build3 with 3.60 roba plugin.....it normally defaults to no deinterlacing.....yep....this problem does show up

tried smartdeinterlacing.....what settings should i be using to get rid of the jagged edges?

using noninterlaced monitor to watch my dvd movies....

thx

Leave it on No De-Interlacing default, if a movie is interlaced then its best to leave it interlaced. As I say in Point 19 in the Tutorial:

19. Click the EncoderTab and make sure Cinema Craft Encoder is selected (and not TMPGEnc or Procoder). D2SRoBa automatically selects One Pass VBR, so do NOT change this. I set Image Qual. Priority to 17 & Bias to 20. Just leave the Q.Factor at what ever it is as D2SRoBa will automatically determine the correct value. Set the Time Code to 00:00:00:00. Click on the Advanced Settings button and set the N/M to 4 and tick "Close all GOP's" if you need to edit your files at some later stage. For the MPEG2 Video Settings, select "ZigZag Scanning Order", "DVD Compliant" (untick if you use TMPGEnc DVD Author for any later authoring) & "Progressive Frames" but if your original DVD is Interlaced, select only "DVD Compliant" here. TV Episode DVD's are typically interlaced.

There is also a newer version of D2SRoBa v 3.77 thats worth checking out.

i'd rechecked your tutorial.....corrected some settings and left it as NO de-interlacing.....but the problem is still there.....here's a pic of my problem similar to this website

thx

Hmm.. then I suggest you select TELECINE as the Deinterlace option and turn on all MPEG2 Video setting options in CCE Advance Settings window.

"TELECINE as the Deinterlace option"......i was not able to find it?......or do you mean smartde-interlace near the conversion tab......using this function....sampled chapters one and two encoded properly.....

pls see this thread
*ttp://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=80552

i was able to get rid of the staircased effect in smart de-interlace and get a smooth look to it.....but when it came time to encode the whole movie......it was like a zig zagged image running across a blk background....the audio was distorted......dvd2svcd only processed half of the movie and at 2.5x speed.....never gotten this fast before

don't know how to set the smart de-interlace settings properly i guess....

did check all the boxes in advanced settings but still a no go...

thx

CM

the telecide function appears to be working properly in encoding this movie....doing some spot checks between the encoded vobs and original dvd.....wow.....hard to believe but it works....

one final question....how do you know if the original dvd is noninterlaced or interlaced?....is there a tool to detect it for you as opposed to guessin'

thx again

:)

No tool seams to be 100% accurate, but I find Bitrate Viewer ( www.tecoltd.com) one of the best. But to be honest, I've yet to find a PAL Interlaced DVD that I've had to use the Telecide option. Just keep it Interlaced and untick all MPEG2 Video options in CCE Advanced Settings except DVD Compliant. Has worked 100% for me for the last few years.

i had tried your suggestions on another dvd movie....left the original gop settings as 3, 4 and 1

it does work.....the edges are not jagged....the only prob when playin' back on PowerDVD 6....the subs are flickering especially against anything white in the background......on my older WinDVD the subs are steady and clear....

this is the 1st time that i have come across this prob
