Capturing video

Hope someone can help ! I'm getting mad about it...
I'm capturing video from miniDV cam via firewire, I thought that the transfer to HD was like a file transfer but I'm starting to think it's not..
Codecs which are used to capture are getting me confused, I tried
Mainconcept, Canopus and some others with ev'ry kind of programs available (PowerDirector,Ulead,Premiere6.5, Pinnacle etc..) the video is captured quite good but I want more.
Video is set to be captured at 720x576 but players open it in a little window that seems to me 320x even tho if video properties tell it's 720x plus when I go fullscreen it looks obviously bad.
As you could imagine the video played without resizing the window looks perfect but I need to watch it fullscreen. If I connect the cam via composite to my TV the output is amazing !
I want to transfer my videos to DVD-R keeping the quality...so I would like to know how to capture at max, uncompressed high bitrate video, doesn't matter if it needs 10 or 20 mb/s my system can do it then I'll encode mpeg2 with TMPG...
The problem is getting the best.

P.S. I tried huffyuv codec which should be a lossless codec but drops millions of frames, maybe I did something wrong..

if your source is bad, you can't do anything about it. even if you spend million of dollars there's nothing you can do.
try using optibase capture card. but it cost $21,000 usd

If you capture the video to your hard drive at the highest quality and output at the highest quality then there should no problem. It would seem that you need to resize the window of the program you are using for playback. I've used several of the same progs and never had that problem. I assume that you are outputting your video as MPEG-2 DVD quaility. However, keep in mind that if you output a movie in DVD quality (720x576) then that is what you will get. If your screen size is set at an 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution for example then playing the video in full screen mode is going to cause it to not look as sharp. Also the height and width ratios will not be the same at full screen mode either and will further add to the picture quality problem in full screen.

Tnx for reply ;)
No, I'm not getting video in Mpeg2 on the fly, I was capturing uncompressed to have the best quality available.
About resolution yes, you r right but if I capture to 720x I assume that the player will show at least a full quality movie at 720x, but even tho is fine it's not like playing the video via camera.
@zapppppp
I'm using a PCI Dazzle firewire card and I know there are better cards but what sounds strange to me is that if I go full screen while playing via camera, video is perfect. So, why the hell shouldn't I have the same quality when I capture ? :)
My video card has composite and s.video in/out, same here, great video played by the cam but the capture file is crap.
My pc is a 2200+, 512mb ram,1 Ata 100 hd,1 Ultra wide scsi 160 hd, yes it can do the job!

sorry for my english and this is my firt post here!
probably you've solved your problem...if not:

to view on pc your captured video at 720x right click on movie player window and select filter's propertie (some of dvs) so you will find the settings you need...by default visualization of dv avis is set to half size!
