capture to Sony Vaio

It looks like nothing works with Sony Vaio i-link (1394) for capturing except Sony's Videogate. Yesterday I tried Ulead DVD Workshop 1.2 and had the same problem - 'can not initialize the capture driver'. In Ulead FAQs I found that Sony has its own 1394 chipset which is not compatible with the standart protocol. I tried more than ten SW packages with the same result! Is anybody know something to capture from mini-DV into the Sony Vaio PC (notebook PCG-XG28, Win 98 SE) without 2GB file length limit?

Sony Switcher

There is some software around which gives you the option to switch between the Sony and Microsoft systems and when you have tured the Sony one off you can use any variety of Video editing progs other than Sony's DV Gate.. The file is called Sony Switcher and I have used it with Premiere and MediaStudio on a Sony Vaio F250. I am not sure if it is a Sony, MicroSoft, or Ulead release.
