can't read burnt CDs

Hai,

Mine is Toshiba Dynabook (XP Japanese) that came with a Matsushita UJD730 DVD-R/CD-RW, and loaded with DrapNDrop CD software.

I stopped using this software and stared using XP's internal CD writer which I found is more convenient. Intially it worked well for 20-30 CDs. But suddenly I am facing this problem ...

After I burn a CD, and reinsert the CD in the drive .. it turns, turns, n turn and finally stops with out reading anything at alll ....
(the burning happens, I guess, perfectly - because the burnt CD is being read on other PC normally)

Recently the issue became worse, once burning is over, the files copied donot get trashed automatically - I need restrat the PC (or deliberately crash the explorer) to trash them out ... (the Rewritable CDs donot give this problem by the way)

What could be the problem ...please help ...note that I am such a beginner I dont have any idea about IDEs, ATAPI etc etc. ...

thanks in advance .. (I have loads of partically burnt CDs which I want to fill in !!)

Hi vargu, Welcome to our forum! :cool:

if i remember right, you can not drag&drop to CD-R with Windows' native burning engine (called IMAPI), you can only drag&drop to CD-RW;
this process is called "packet writing" and in generally this is not recommended for storing important data;

usally a CD mastering programm like RecordNow (v4.5/v4.6), Burnatonce (v0.99b) or Nero (v5.5.10.54) will do such a job (storing important data) in a perfect manner; you have to select "Multisession" for multiple burning onto a CD-R;

also i would recommend to uninstall your "DrapNDrop CD software" (What's the name?) before installing any other thing, and disabling IMAPI too;

if you like to recover the files from your already written CD-R's, i would recommend a tool called "Isobuster";

Thanks !! Let me Try

Hai Dura cell,

Thanks for your reply ...
and I shall give you my feedback after I try your suggestions...

Drap N Drop is a CD burning software made by a Japanese company called. Toshiba recommends I use only this software for this particular CD-writer Hardware ..??? I stopped using this beacause I could not do ''multi-session'' writing properly

if you like to recover the files from your already written CD-R's, i would recommend a tool called "Isobuster";
I am able to read the CDs (burnt using XP's internal CD writer) in other PCs perfectly, except mine. So rather than recovery, I just want to open these burnt CDs in my PC and write more on them :)

Thanks again and I would be troubling you more ....
