Can't process DVDStripper output w/ DVDShink

Can't process DVDStripper output w/ DVDShrink

Just tried DVDStripper for the first time - had no problems with any portion of it. :D
The final output size was 5.7G, so I tried to use DVDshrink (3.1), and it 'choked' with an error - "cannot load file' (or something along those lines)- I can open and play the files directly from the output folder, and I even created an image file using IMGTool, mounted the image with Daemon tools, and it plays just fine.
I also tried the demo version of Nero Recode, along with earlier versions (2.3, 3.0 beta5) of DVDShrink, all with the same resulting error.
Anyone else run into this problem?

I would try some other transcoders too (as The-poacher suggested). Recode and Shrink are practically siblings. If you check DVDShrink's forum, you'll see that this is not an uncommon problem. Just yesterday, I had to do a quickie :), so I chose DVDShrink 3.05b, which popped up an "uknown error" message. I tried DVD2ONE 1.4, which finished ok, and just to check, I started Instant Copy, and no problem there too. Apparently there was something that shrink didn't like. But as long as the job got done, and it plays OK, all the way, I don't complain.
Also, DVDShrink goes under rapid upgrades in the last days. I just downloaded V. 3.1.2, so I would give that a try too.

I got the same problem with DVDShrink 3.1 and 3.1.2 :(
I get a runtime error with DVDShrink. DVD2One does not work on the files either. ZoomPlayer plays the files improperly (just plays all the menus and movie sequentially without ever stopping at a menu and waiting for user input.) WinDVD however plays it fine...

@0.5 wit, Hi and welcome to the forums :)

what version of DVDDecrypter you using as cannot load file sounds like it's missing a few VOB's

as for other playback issues with DVDStripper I would like to say what I know but I can't for I may upset some people :(. It's a lonely world in DVDStripper land I suppose :(

if anyone get's other loading issues with DVDShrink, you can try deleting your analysis in DVDShrink. Sometimes analysing the DVD before using DVDStripper causes issues

during my time since the creation of DVDStripper, along with my betatesters and after hours of testing we have found issues with some of the DVD backup programs

there was one problematic DVD a guy had and only DVD2One and another that I can't recall (probably IC), would produce what I would class as a fully compliant DVD after I analysed and tested the files

along with TMG and the testers we have overcome most obstacles but a few of these still cannot be 'tamed' ;) but we are working hard on it and have eliminated a couple in 021 Beta version which is going through final testing

I just went thru the process of doing a dvd and came across the same error I think.

DVDStripper 0.2.0
DVD Decrypter 3.1.9
DVD Shrink 3.1 or 2.3 (same results)

I can open the folder fine thru PowerDVD and everything works fine, but I get the attached error when trying to open it in dvdshrink.

@ 3EB, Hi and welcome to the forums :)

please read this thread here as you cannot yet use DVDDecrypter 3.1.9.0 with DVDStripper but you will real soon ;)

p.s. VIDEO_TS_1.VOB is a wierd thing though as I've never seen one so I wonder why Shrink is looking for it as it should be looking for VIDEO_TS_0.VOB

You were correct MackemX, that solved the problem. Sorry, I actual did have that version, but I also had the newer one, so I uninstalled the new one, and now it worked.

I use DVDDecrypter 3.1.7. I have not touched the menus at all, only extras and the end credits of the movie. How does the DVD player know that a file is to be treated like a menu, i.e. it stops and waits for input and you are able to select menu items? This somehow gets ruined in ZoomPlayer since I cannot do any of these things.

With DVDShrink, I get the error while loading the files, so I cannot get as far as to analyse anything. Tried it on 3.0.5 now as well with the exact same runtime error.

Have you tried WinDVD or PowerdDVD?

have you deleted the analysis data files?
try using an older version of DVDShrink (pre version 2.0 and it will accept it, email me if you want as I have all versions) and as Arianos said this has happened to other people

Yeah it works in WinDVD.
Tried Nero Recode now as well. Gives me the exact same C++ Runtime Error when trying to load the files! Very odd.

Found a "solution"

Okay – Here’s what happens: I have my file associations set so that double-clicking a VIDEO_TS.IFO file will launch DVDShrink. When I do this, I get a “General Error” dialog from DVDShrink. However, if I open DVDShrink, and use the ‘Open File’, I get the same error 3EB got- “Failed to open file xx\xx\VIDEO_TS_1.VOB- …cannot find the file specified”.
So (out of desperation), I copied the VIDEO_TS.IFO file, renamed it to VIDEO_TS_1.VOB, and DVDShrink opened the files with no problem!:p
I don’t think the contents of the VIDEO_TS_1.VOB file matter, as long as DVDShrink can find it… I’ll do some tests later when I get home.
Now – is this a possible bug w/ DVDstripper? Is it mis-naming something in the VIDEO_TS.IFO when it goes through the IFOEdit stage?

recode works exactly the same as DVDShrink so that error is to be expected :)

the IFO's are probably to blame anyway but once in a blue moon DVDShrink doesn't load a DVD ;)

it's not a bug in DVDStripper I know that much but if it is a bug it will be happening during the updating of the IFO's :(

is there an actual VIDEO_TS.VOB on the original and in the folder after processing?

you haven't said what version of DVDDecrypter you are using yet ;)

Try ReJig instead of DVDShrink. Doesn't let you do reauthoring and isn't pretty but the output is higher quality. One thing to try is also use DVDShrink but set to 0 compression and remove something like phantom subtitles.
