can't play avi

i dl this movie from irc and i cant play it even tho the movie is taggged as divx encoded; i have xvid and divx codecs installed and i tried diff. players with no luck.

i used gspot to figure out and it says invalid avi file and the video/audio codecs area say n.a.

so what do i do to play this file?

Perhaps it is just corrupt. Do you have Tobias' OGG directshow filters installed? Not sure if GSPot can detect OGM files without it.

it's possible that it's corrupt; but i'd hate to delete a big file without being sure that it's corrupt; i dont have the ogg filter that u mentioned; do u know the link for it? i'll search on google and see what i can find

try check it with AVIcodec another tool like g-spot see if that brings anything up !? get it from here http://avicodec.duby.info/

GSpot does not require any codec to be installed to identify the codec used. It relies on it own internal "signature" data to tell them all apart. If its not in its list it cant tell you what it is.

ubamous3, are you avle to load the file into VirtualDUB. If you right click on the avi, go to properties then select Summary, does it give you any information about the file?

i can't load it into virtualdub either,and there's no info at all when i rightclick on it for info

i'll try the divfix and divxrepair but sounds like the file is a goner
