Hi Wedge

MoveOnBoot should solve your problem, download it here:

no, don't touch that folder! system volume info folder is used for storing the system restore files, it's an important system folder. even if system restore is switched off it shouldn't be deleted!

in W2k it contains only the Index Catalog of the Windows Index Service, no restore files;
no need for it, i always disable the service and delete the catalog direct after the W2k setup;

but in XP :confused: i don't know

1. think over php's posting;

2. you must have admin rights;

3. right click on the folder > Preferences > Security Settings > Enlarged > Add > Administrator > full rights > distribute the rights to all sub elements > OK

4. delete the folder;

Thanks guys-- Duracell, php, eddieb, and SakCyb.

I found the surest way of deleting that folder. It's called formatting. That partition had nothing else on it that I couldn't back up elsewhere, so I right-clicked that drive letter and did a format.

Before formatting, however, I had tried booting up in Safe Mode, both command-line and non-command-line. Both attempts at deleting failed. Also, I did all of this while logged as the "Administrator".

Duracell, when I right-click on a folder I do not see a "Preferences", but I do see a "Properties". Properties does not have all of the items as you listed for "Preferences".

SakCyb, I'll check out MoveOnBoot. It could be useful for the future perhaps.

Thanks Duracell. I am saving this for future reference. Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but this will be most helpful when I encounter this problem again (and I am sure that I will).
