Cannot eject DVD +RW from LG 4040B

I have recently purchased an LG GSA-4040B DVD +/-RW drive. Everything appears to be working except that I cannot eject a DVD +RW disk.

The supplied B'sClip software (which is some ssort of packet writing software loaded on startup) is supposed to to have an "eject" menu option to eject the drive drawer. This menu option does not exist on my software. When I try to eject the disk with Windows explorer nothing happens.

I have tried the MS knowledge base with no luck. It's been about a week of frustration so far and I would appreciate any help/suggestions. I am running Windows XP prof (SP1).

Thanks and regards,

Hi tanstaaf, Welcome to our forum! :cool:

How about banning B's out from startup folder/registry? Or uninstalling the packet writing part?
Did you tried this, does it help?

Hello Duracell,

Thanks for your suggestion. I am going away on holidays for a fortnight and will not have time to look into this until I get back. I had already tried uninstalling B's Clip. However I did not then remove all references in the registry. I shall just have to go through this methodically to determine if B's Clip is the problem.

I want the packet writer software to backup my hard disk on DVD RWs (spanning across multiple DVDs). Is there any way of doing this without packet writer software?

Thanks and regards,
Tanstaafl

backing up significant data to RW media is generally not recommended; you will know what i mean if you can not recover something someday;
our senior Scarecrow recommends the latest InstantWrite (a part of Pinnacle's Instant CD/DVD), it's possible to write to +/-R with this packet writer;

personally i never tried it, but there are positive comments around:
"Burn to the Brim" - http://bttb.sourceforge.net/
v2.3 - DVD support
+/- BTTB now supports GB sizes so you can organize on DVD (bear)
* Code cleanup (bear)

B's Clip is an inCD variation which won't work with non- RW media. VOB/Pinnacle Instant Write is currently the best packet writer with no RW support. There's also Roxio DirectCD/ Drag to disk, which is gettibg worse with every new release, and the old discontinued versions of Veritas DLA- the current ones support RW only.
And yes, packet writing on RW= asking for deep trouble... On one-pass media packet writing should be considered safe, though.
