Cannot delete Folder in Windows XP

Hey can somebody help!! I installed Trial version of Ulead Photoexpress 4 on my Windows XP and then used a crack to remove time limit , but now when I uninstalled my program and rebooted the computer I cannot delete the empty folder c:\Ulead Systems\Ulead Photo Express 4.0
When I try to delete it it says Cannot delete file :Cannot read from sourcr file or disk
Also in properties dialog box it shows only zero lengh and also does not show any folder name . It shows zero file length. I can save files in this folder but still it shows zero.
This is really weird I think the crack I used did this to my hard disk. Is this a VIRUS? Please help will be appreciated

I have had this problem before. This "ghosted" folder is not a problem, but it is annoying to know its there. I solved my problem by booting into DOS and deleting the folder that way.

Maybe this will work for you.

I got the same problem - stupid folder on my desktop - cant rename it - cant move - has no properties - stupid thing is i can still put things into the directory. *sigh* can even use DOS to get rid of it. Dont think its a virus - though if it is - its certainly a weird one.

Guy well I keep say use AddRemove 2002. Started usin Mr Death Win XP since it can wit mi L/T pc, 1st ting I installed was AddRemove 2002 and every ting I uninstall goes.:D

This should work:

Copy

"rd c:\Ulead Systems\Ulead Photo Express 4.0\ /s /q"

in Command Prompt hit enter and thats it...

(Hope so)

in general to delete protected files(i dont know if that file is protected or not but this is neat just the same)

"Next is Windows File Protection. At this point I feel it necessary to say don't do this if you don't know what you're doing. If you do, then journey on. First we must turn off WFP, to do this open the registry editor, and in "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" select the "SFCDisable " name and set it's value equal to 1. Also for good measure set SFCquota to 0. You must now restart. " taken from h**p://w*w.overclockers.com/tips1023/

softwant31,

Please post back here again. I'm interested in knowing which one of these suggestions, if any, worked for you.

When I had this problem, I ended up only being able to delete it by booting to the command line interface and deleting it from there. Even using safe mode windows and then launching the command line would NOT work - you must boot into the command line interface.

I ran into the same problem before and I used "RegCleanr" to clean the registry and after that go back to explorer to delete those folders. It worked for me.
You can download the software (free) here:

Good luck

I'm not very familiar with command prompt, can anyone help me with that?
If you use WinME, Win98 etc click start and go to Programs, Click "Command prompt" for 2000 and XP click Start, go to Run and type CMD then hit ok.

You will then have the command prompt either reading C:\Windows C:\WINNT or just C:\ (providing your OS is installed on drive C)

If its not at C:\ (root) type cd\ the hit enter.

Next type the following...
Code:
rd c:\Ulead Systems\Ulead Photo Express 4.0
And that should be it.

Raptor051 and ChRiS are right that should do the trick here is the direct posting on the MS website.

SYMPTOMS
If you try to delete folders that are stored on a mounted drive and send them to the Recycle Bin, you may receive the following error message:

Cannot delete Foldername: Access is denied. The source file may be in use.

CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Recycle Bin does not recognize mounted volumes. For example, assume that the following drive layout is in use:

Drive C is a 1-gigabyte (1-GB) drive that uses the NTFS file system.

C:\Host-dir is the mount point for a separate 9-GB drive.
If you try to delete a folder with the path C:\Host-dir\Mydir, Windows Explorer interprets the folder as being on drive C and tries unsuccessfully to place it in the Recycle Bin on drive C.

RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, use either of the following methods:
When you delete files or folders by using Windows Explorer, use the SHIFT+DELETE key combination. This bypasses the Recycle Bin.

Open a command prompt window and use the rd /s /q command to delete the files or folders.

NOTE: Both of these methods permanently delete the data. You cannot recover the data unless you have a current backup.

If you are under Win 9X, then safeErase shouldn't even install.
Boot from a 9X floppy, navigate yourself via "cd" to the desired directory, and delete the file. You can also use a commander program for DOS, like Volkov commander or FAR Manager.
