Can you repair a divx?

Hi
I have a Divx file which is very good with the exception that when viewing in media player or power dvd there is interference in 15-20% on the left side of the screen. Imagine a perfect picture but partly obscured by a net curtain and that is what I get.
Is it possible to repair this or is it bad file? I have two very different size copies of the same film but both are the same when viewed.
Other films play ok.

Thx

Yeah, doesn't sound to me like the actual file is damaged. Also Jola never said that it was an AVI.

That said it would really help me (also probably anyone else reading this) to understand exactly what is going on if you could post a screenshot.

Thx - it is an avi but I don't know how to capture a screenshot
tell me and I'll do it :)
Thx

For a screentshot prepare your screen and press the print screen button next to the F12 key...

Then load up a graphics editing program and paste save the image.. and upload...

Regards

Video is generally played as an overlay and printscreen does not capture overlays. Probably the easiest way is to load the file into VirtualDub/VirtualDubMod. Could also try disabling hardware video excelleration or opening two video windows and capturing the second one.

Tried it in VDub and got this message:Eror decompressing video frame 0: An unknown error occurred (may be corrupt data). (error code 100)
When I moved to next key frame there are several frames producing this message. Is it too damaged?
Thx

I've just found another file with the same problem - when played in media player 9 it looks damaged but when played in VDub it's perfect. Could this mean that if I just proceeded to convert to DVD the interfeene might disappear?
Thx

VirtualDub uses a VFW decoder as do most conversion programs. So the answer is probably yes, unless the program converts via directshow (Nero 6.xx does) in which case it will look the same as it did on playback.

As for the VDub error, either damaged or the wrong decoder.

Thx very much for your help - but now I'm even more confused.
I checked in Gspot and it informed me that the codec was not installed (divx5).
Now I already have d/l the divx latest codec together with the player V5.0.4.
If I play it in the Divx player the film plays ok - no damage. I then went back to Gspot which then told me the codecs were installed and rendered the file. It reported that directshow was able to play the file. Tried media player again and power dvd with the same damaged result.
Whats happening?
Thx again.

WMP9, I guess you don't, because as I understand it (don't personally use it) you no longer get access to such info, however one would assume that it uses the same graph as GSpot and therefor DivX to decode.
