Just installed my Plextor 708A in my new PC. It plays CDs just fine, but everytime I insert any DVD, I get the blue screen error saying

"a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage.....etc, etc.....STOP: 0x0000007F....begining dump of physical memory......"

I tried reinstalling the drive differnt ways changing up the jumper mods and even installing it alone without my other cd drive, yet i still get the error when I pop any DVD in. I can't even put in the software DVD install that it came with becuase I get the blue screen error when I put it in.

Can someone help? What can it possibly be? I thought it may be a hardware problem, but then why would it read my CDs just fine?

EDIT: Found the answer. Happened to have a software conflict. For those who have the same problem, there is a conflict if you happen to have SONIC record software on your machine....

Glad U found the reason!!

Sonic and the Nero 5.5 "Plextor Edition" which comes with the Plextor don't conflict, unless you have also installed inCD or DLA. Issues exist only for the newer Nero 6.X series.
Of course you might have bought the Plextor in the States or Canada, and it came bundled with Roxio Cremator instead. In that case, I can only wish you luck! :D
