Can not read DVD-R in DVD drive

I can not copy content of Memorex DVD-R (R4.7) sent to me from the DVD CDRW drive on my Lattitude C840 Laptop. However I can see the content.

Any ideas why???

Hi Endre, Welcome to our forum!

sounds like a common media incompatibility;
try to update your DVD/CDRW's firmware or use other media (e.g. Ritek's) for burning in your DVD-RW drive;

The CD was sent to me by DHL from another country and I would not like to ask the person to do this again if I can retrieve the files in another way.

Is it more likely that another DVDRW could read the DVD properly?
Or should I purchase a newer DVD reader?

I do not mind as I can purchase the items needed on the company I work for.

I would first try it in a friends/neighbours/family/work mates DVDRom first to see if the DVDR can be read by any of them first. If that is the case, try and track down someone with a DVD Burner and just copy it to a Ritek dvdr. If it cant be read, then contact the sender and ask for another copy on different media.
