can dvds only be converted to Vcd's?

i just wanna know that. i have a dvd-rom and a cd-r burner, i've downloaded some movies that are avi, and mpeg format and i'm trying to burn them on a cd-r, i've been able to get the images on the cds but not any sound!?! and i just wanted to see if there was anything i could download to fix it

If U downloaded em burning them may be illegal but check the sound before U burn

PS what has the title to do with this (DVD's can be converted to VCD SVCD Avi Mpeg & probably loads more formats)
