Burning to DVD+RW disc questions:

Greetings and salutations. I'm Haleypop and I just registered.

I just bought a Plextor PX-504A DVD writer and a five-pack of Imation DVD+RW discs. I also have Roxio CD and DVD Creator 6.0 Platinum.

I am now all dressed up and nowhere to go. :)

I have been using a Plextor CD writer and I've got that process down, but I don't really understand DVD writing. Specifically, I have questions about formatting, and I would much appreciate some enlightenment about where to go from here.

First off, do DVD+RW discs come pre-formatted? I tried to do a "full format" alla Roxio software, and I'm not sure where I should have done that or not. The software seemed to say the format job was successull, but I tried to burn a DVD move from an .AVI file I have on my hard drive and I received a rather cryptic comment from my software, "no recordable media in drive" or something to that effect.

Did I need to do the full format? Do you only do a format if you are using the disc for storing files or such? Did I screw up my disc?

If anyone could steer me in the right direction at this juncture, that would be cool.

cheers,

Haleypop

Firstly the discs will come already formatted. Now for the fun part
Roxio burning software is crap best thing to do is get some decent dvd software like Recordnow Max or Discjuggler.

I have my PLEX-504A almost a month, no problems so far writting DVD"s with DiscJuggler. At least use Nero5.5.x.x comes with Plex box.

Villa21: Nero comes with the Plex at your country... (previously it was Cequadrat/Roxio WinOnCD, which is not exactly crap, but nevertheless not the best either).
In USA plextors are bundled with Cremator.
I will also suggest trying another burning soft. Discjuggler comes easily to mind (for sure the best mastering app available), although it's not user friendly at all. Else give Veritas RecordNow and EVEN Nero a go.
