Burning issue! - excuse the pun...

Help!

I have a notebook with 2 DVD-rw drives.

Internal Drive - works like a charm
External Drive - LG GSA-5120D, makes great drinks coasters (firewire)

I have tried everything suggested within the forum, hardware/software and firmware appear up-to-date. I've tried burning with alcohol 120, Nero and Cyberlink prods, all to no avail.

When I burn to the external drive, it appears to hang at around 5%, whilst writing the lead-in, I generally have to power down the external drive to allow the abort to be sucessful. This happens on all media formats, and I am using good quality ones.

I have posted Machine specific info below, but if anyone has any experience of the LG-5120D I'd love to hear suggestions and your experiences.

Here's hoping, thanks for your time in advance,
Paul.

looks like an ASPI/SCSI command failure;
usually i would recommend to kill your current ASPI and install Adaptec's ASPI v.4.6 (1021); but as i can read in your log, v4.6 (b1021) is already proper installed; :confused:

however, two thoughts:
- try it without ASPI layer; use ForceASPI's kill function for uninstalling;
- try a trusty Nero version; latest recommended is v6.3.1.25; still to find at Ahead's ftp servers;

Greetings from
Duracell

ASPI has no real functionality for USB and firewire drivers... I would rather update the chipset drivers (Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller). I know that all Intel 855 chipset based firewaire contollers can accept burners just fine under any supporting OS, but I have no real idea about this TI controller- I think the driver is the one to blame.

Sort of fixed..

USB2 connections now run like a dream after I upgraded the firware of the LG drive.

Firewire still no go, I can live without it, but it's a shame because firewire was one of my purchase criteria.

Thanks for you input.
Paul.
