Okay, so here's the deal, I have a Nero CD-R-rom (Or was it RW?).

Anyway, I don't have the actual paper right now, but it is possible for me to burn DVDs with my drive... This would also mean I could read DVDs, wouldn't it? I mean, if I can burn it, my optical lences much be able to read it..?

Does anyone have any drivers or stand-alone programs that lets me read DVDs or not?

And no, I do not want the responses "Impossible" since I already can burn DVDs with a CD-rom drive.

I would be greatful for any help given.

You mean you HAVE, or some scumsucking spammer sold you software that says it will ?

You can burn a VCD or SVCD that will PLAY in a DVD, but the electronic and optical characteristics of the 5 types of drive cannot be altered by software:

  • CD-ROM - reads CDs, including burned media and RW for modern drives (no writing!)
  • DVD-ROM - reads CDs and DVDs (no writing!)
  • CD-RW - reads CDs, writes CD-R and CD-RW
  • CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo - a 2 in 1 drive that functions as a DVD-ROM and a CD-RW
  • DVD+/-R/W - A DVD writer... Can read DVD and CD, write CD-R/RW, and write the appropriate type of DVD media depending on the drive - +/- or both

Please include the name of the software used, and the identity of the drive as reported in device manager.

i hate the break it to u, but there's no way to burn a dvd with anything less than a dvd burner, and no way to read a dvd with anything less than a dvd-rom. care to explain exactly what u did to "burn DVDs with a CD-rom drive"?

No... No bullshit. I guess you guys assume all CD-roms are the same. Anyway, I guess none of you found anything that I was looking for then (And I've already read about the lence stuff, so care to explain why I can burn DVDs?). Thanks for trashtalking me a bit, feels nice. Have to say you guys seem to have a nice community in here :D.

Yet again, thanks for the shorthanded help.

it's not "shorthanded help," there's literally no way u can burn a dvd with a cd-rom. the list LTR12101B provided is exactly what each type of drive is capable of doing. unless u can tell us what u're doing and what programs u're using, we can't help u.

if u're writing discs, then u either have a dvd burner or a cd burner, and the only way to write dvds is with a dvd burner.

Well, I have developed a great driver which can burn DVD's on a floppy drive, but I still have some problems to make the damn DVD fit into the floppy slot...
I guess that my next invention ought to be the DVD size-shrinking caddy! :D

As has been stated U cannot burn to DVDR with a CDRW

There are many conwares out there that state "Burn your DVD's to CDR send your money"

The result ARE NOT DVD's but VCD or SVCD which U can do with freeware/trial S/ware/shareware (hence CONWARE)

If U want to burn to DVD-R or DVD+R U must have a DVD burner.

NAME the drive - as windows sees it, and NAME the software.

Burning on a CD-ROM, or burning DVD on a CD-RW, are FREQUENT claims made in email spam for the latest and greatest DVD-COPY software - that's usually only some ripped off freeware, some trials and demos. wrapped up in a front end.

We'll listen, but you'll have to state your case with specific hardware and software used - if we had a pound/dollar for every bit of software that claimed to do this, we'd be seriously rich, so please excuse us if we don't take such a claim at face value.

Any software that says "burn DVD's with your CD-RW", usually means that you can burn a backup of a DVD converted to SVCD, which will play in a DVD player - and unless you analyse exactly what it DOES produce, you might take that cliam at face value, since what it produced PLAYS in a DVD.

Give us some details, and once we know what you're actually using, we can figure out what it SHOULD be capable of, what it SAYS it's doing, and what it's REALLY doing, and if it's possible for it to do more.
