Please help, i have downloaded numerous films from the net ( for my use only )

i want to burn them onto a dvd-video using nero express 2

i have a very fast machine - 1.5gig ram, athlon 2500+ blah blah blah...

i have just burned my second.... and the sound is perfect, but the video playback is slow and seems to skip a frame every couple of seconds! so its out of synch with the sound.... grrr!

its driving me mad...

can anyone please help?

thanks!

Alberto

Aside from being told that NVE sucks, it's actually quite good at making chapters and menu's that look quite professional.
Here's a short bit on how to use NVE with other tools, to get the product you want.
1.) Encode the avi to a dvd compliant mpeg in your favourite encoder, other than Nero. I really like Mainconcept, TMPGEnc take's second place, and DVD2SVCD get's honourable mention, because it's free (if you use doom9's version of eclcce).
2.) Load the finished mpeg into NVE. Set up your chapters and menus.
3.) Burn with your dvd burning software.

These seam far better options that NVE ever will be.

I didn't have as much time to post as I would have liked last time, so here's more info on getting a successful dvdr from those crappy downloaded, questionable quality avi's ;)

First, get VirtualDub.
Open the video in Vdub, use the "fill" filter to remove the watermark.
Use the "sharpen" filter set to about 20 to clean up the fuzz a bit.
Save the avi using a GOOD codec, such as Divx 4, or 5, configure it to save at the highest possible bitrate (6000). Do NOT use XviD or 3vix. TMPGEnc can have siezures on those codecs.
Join the video at the same time, if it's in 2 parts, like most of them are.
Second, encode in TMPGEnc, to produce a dvd compliant mpeg. Be very careful of filesize, making sure it is NOT larger than 3.7 gig.
I know this seems overkill, but NVE only uses LPCM audio, which takes up about another half gig or more, plus menus/chapters, totalling about the max of 4.3gig useable on a 4.7 gig dvdr.
Set the Audio bitrate to 224 or lower. There's no point in wasting audio space. I can guarantee the original avi is probably encoded at much less than that.
Open the mpeg in NVE, and author as you like, burn at the same time, as NVE uses the famous Nero Burning Rom engine.
NVE will transcode (don't ya just love that word?...NOT!) but will (should) not completely re-encode.
On your system, NVE should take no more than 30 min to transcode and burn. If NVE estimates much more than that, then it's decided to do a complete re-encode, and you are going to end up worse than when you started.
Please post back if you have more questions :D

Please help,or suicide may follow :)

Do NOT use XviD or 3vix.

What happens when the dld files are already in 3vix or xvid??
I have 3 files, 1 3vix and 2 xvid. The 3vix file just stalls my authoring prog and the xvid one bring up a message saying the files are not accessible.
Please help or a large hammer could be the tool used on the p.c.:)

They are all MPEG4, if they were in the mp4 container and not AVI then they would all just be mp4v. They therefor all should be decodeable via each other, although I think both DivX and 3ivX will have trouble with an XviD file if it uses GMC, Nero Digital and ffdshow should handle it fine though. TMPGEnc works fine here with XviD by the way.

Not such a good idea recompressing with a lossy codec like that, VirtualDub filters require RGB24, so that means YV12-->RGB24-->YV12-->RGB24 (if you are using TMPGEnc 2.5). Better to use AVISynth to filter on the fly. YV12-->RGB24 or I think YV12-->YUY2 for TMPGEnc express, which can also do AC3 encoding.

dvd2svcd or tmpgenc are the choices to go with read the excellent guides here at the forum and you will have no bother at all :)
