Hey, How are you guys doing.. Just joined. I've actually been running into some troubles. I am hoping someone has had similar problems that have been resolved and will be willing to provide me with some guidance. My proficiency for technical issues is decent at best. I do not have a broad knowledge DVD Hardware or software which keeps me from figuring it out myself.

Here is my dilemna for anyone who might be willing to provide input....

I purchased a Memorex DVD burner. I figure True 8x Dual format +/- internal e-ide should cover the information you'll need to know about it. The included software was Nero 6 memorex suite. I want Software and Hardware that will burn dvds playable in home dvd players. I have no other need for it. I burned 3 dvds from 2 mpegs I had on my computer. The first one was a Memorex DVD+r the next a Fuji DVD-r and the last one was a DVD-rw. All the burn sessions ended with a burn process completed successfully prompt. However neither one of them will play in any of the dvd players in my house. The dvd players are of different quality and features. I really don't care to have this software and hardware if it cannot produce dvds that will play in dvd players. Is there a default setting that should be changed? I've looked at the options up and down and didn't see anything that might prevent it from being played on a DVD player. Is it possibly a defective unit even though everything looks like its working right. Are there certain features I should be looking for on software or hardware? Are there certain features I should be looking for on DVD players?

Anyones help is greatly appreciated.

are you sure that your dvd players are capable of playing recordable dvds at all?
yeah, i actually got that one to work.. now I have a different dilemna. I transferred a home video to my hard drive using Pinnacle PCTV Pro and burned and did the exact same thing and now that won't work. It is an Mpeg2 file. Should I be trying a different format? Has anyone had this problem before? Should I be returning this hardware and getting a different brand?

You are authoring these mpeg's and burning as DVD video aren't you? Because not all (most) players won't play RAW mpg's.
I am burning them as video dvds. That was actually the problem initially. I was burning them in some other format. But then realized I had to burn them as video dvds and it worked. But then I did the exact same thing with the video I had burned to my hard drive using pctv and it didn't work only the menu would play. What did you mean by authoring by the way? Thanks alot for your response.

Authoring as in taking DVD compliant streams, pictures, etc. and authoring them as DVD compliant files ready for burning (ifo, vob, etc.).
