Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me. I am trying to burn my avi files onto a dvd+ r disc. So far I have my files downloaded and I am able to watch them on the divx player and pretty much that is as far as I have gotton. I have Nero and divx codec. I have not used them yet. I am not interested in vcd's. I am only interested in making my own dvds to play in my home dvd player. If someone who knows exactly what I need to do could reply with pretty much a step by step I would be ever so grateful. I have been trying to figure this out on my own and I finally must admit that I need a little help  :. I am new to this, but I catch on fast. :)

Thanx,
Natasha : :

Hi

Can you help me with the next stage?
I suggested above I have converted an avi to mpeg2 using Mainconcept and on the preview window which shows how encoding is progressing, everything looks ok but when I play it back with WinDVD or Media Player the result is elongated vertically. The file has also increased in size from 750mb to 3.5gb - is that normal. I have seen tutorials that might suggest you need a load of space when converting from avi.
I would normally convert an mpeg to dvd using DVDLab and the size when muxed is generally similar to the original file.
My questions is, I know this conversion technique is a quick method so am I at at a stage where I need to pick up on the general tutorial (as Poacher points to) some way through?
Details are in the Mainconcept window:

Video Input Info
Frame Rate 23.976
Size 640 x 272 pixels

Output Info
Mpeg 2
NTSC Video Mode
Stream Type - Program (Video+Audio)
Audio Mode - Layer 2
640 x 272 pixels
29.97fps

Thx in advance

Jola

The size of an AVI (DivX or Xvid) compared to its size after converting to MPEG2 is almost never the same. AVI's ( DivX or Xvid) are highly compressed, MPEG2's arn't.

The mpeg2 your making is not SVCD nor is it DVD. For a DVD complaint stream you need to increase its size to 720x480, then it might play properly.

Thanks for your reply.

I did what you said but it was the still elongated but in the meantime I was fiddling with the settings and changed the aspect ratio to 16.9 and that fixed it.
But how could I find the necessity of that before starting - is it in the propertis somewhere?

Cheers

Thx - much obliged.
I dont want to ask too many questions and pester anyone but if I start another thread maybe you could quickly put out of my misery - it's about asf files.

Thx again
